About the event
CALLICOON, NY (01/02/24) – Tempe Digital announces the limited theatrical release of its latest production, a sci-fi/horror feature entitled “Side Effects May Vary.” Directed by cult indie icon J.R. Bookwalter (“The Dead Next Door,” “Ozone”) from a screenplay by star James L. Edwards (“Her Name Was Christa,” “Bloodletting”), the screenings will be a series of one-night only roadshow events at venues across the country throughout the spring.
The filmmakers will be in attendance for a post-show Q&A, joined by other cast members at select locations. “Side Effects May Vary” tells the fictional story of a world gripped by a deadly pandemic, as science denier Glenn Rollins turns to an experimental vaccine as treatment for a lingering sickness. Much to the surprise of his doctor, wife, and friends, the remedy immediately fixes what ails him. But Glenn will soon discover the only thing more fatal than the virus... is the cure.
The tour kicks off on the East Coast in late January, with stops in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia, PA before arriving in Callicoon, NY on January 30 for a 7:30PM screening at the historic Callicoon Theater. The oldest continually operated cinema in Sullivan County, the art deco Callicoon features state-of-the art digital projection and surround sound in a 350-seat “Quonset Hut” style auditorium built in 1948. The theater was purchased in 2018 by Krissy Smith, whose background as a freelance theater director/producer has breathed new life into the venue.
For the Tuesday, January 30 special event, the filmmakers will be joined by Catskills resident Sasha Graham, an actress who made her feature debut in the 1995 chiller “Addicted to Murder” before co-starring in the Tempe Entertainment productions “Polymorph” and “Bloodletting.” In “Side Effects May Vary,” Graham plays the pivotal role of Dr. Julia Fisher, who is responsible for injecting the lead character with an experimental vaccine.
Graham, Bookwalter, and Edwards will all be in attendance for the screening, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by host and area resident Heather Carlucci. The live Q&A will be recorded for an upcoming episode of Carlucci’s popular podcast, Psychic Pool Party.
Attendees also receive a free surgical mask featuring full-color artwork from the movie’s poster, a collectible promotional giveaway for every ticket sold.
